RECLINING AND RESTORATIVE POSES
Happy Baby | Ananda Balasana
Happy baby opens the hips while encouraging relaxation and inner awareness. It's a great pose to wind down and encourage feelings of innocent joy as if you were a happy baby.
Sanskrit: Ananda Balasana
Drishti: nose or eyes closed
Counterpose: reclined twist, savasana
Materials
- Yoga mat
Instructions
- Lie on your back and bend your knees into your belly.
- Inhale and hold the outsides of your feet with your hands, opening your knees slightly wide and then bring them up closer to your armpits. Exhale.
- Place each ankle directly over your knee with shins perpendicular to the floor. Sway from side to side.
- Relax into the pose with mindful breathing.
Notes
Modifications: Use straps to grip your feet if necessary.
Preparatory poses: hero, reclined hero, child's pose, butterfly
Follow-up poses: reclined twist, savasana
