Is your back feeling achy or do you feel a bit sluggish? Twisting postures can be very soothing yet energizing. Making repetitive movements that compress your lower back creates tension and depletes your energy. This is especially true if you tend to sit down for work for many hours at a time. Try some feel-good twists to stretch your spine and relieve some back tension.
5 feel good twisty Yoga poses to try
1. Thread the needle
Thread the needle is a great way to open the shoulders and stretch the thoracic or mid spine. The neck stretch adds to the stress-relieving effects of this pose!
2. Downward dog twist
Downward facing dog is good but make it great by adding a twist! Try this energizing inversion to test your balance while stretching the spine and hamstrings.
3. Low lunge twist
Want to open those tight hips and twist at the same time? This one really does the job, it also tests your balance. Keep the hips even while doing this pose.
4. Malasana twist
This one is a grounding pose (offers more stability) that opens the hips while twisting.
5. Seated twist
This is a convenient pose that you can do anywhere, even while sitting on an office chair! If you’re on the ground, start from a cross-legged seated position. Inhale and bring your left hand to your right knee and your right hand on the ground about a foot behind you. Exhale and twist to the right, looking over your right shoulder. Repeat on the other side
